Szczawnica

Szczawnica is the most recognizable spa resort in the Pieniny Mountains. A perfect base for mountain trips, as well as a place for health treatments and family relaxation.

Location and Character

Located in the valley of the Grajcarek River, at the foot of Palenica Mountain, between three ranges: the Pieniny, the Little Pieniny, and the Sądecki Beskids. Since the 19th century, Szczawnica has been one of Poland’s most important spa towns, combining healing mineral waters, mountain scenery, and the rich culture of the Polish-Slovak borderland.

Spa and Parks

Szczawnica is famous for its healing mineral waters – bicarbonate-chloride-sodium springs used in drinking therapies that support treatment of respiratory and digestive diseases. Two intakes are located near the Lower Park, where you can taste the waters directly from the source.

The spa atmosphere of the town is highlighted by the Upper and Lower Parks – green, well-kept areas with walking paths, fountains, and resting places. The central point is Dietl Square, surrounded by historic villas, cafés, and the main pump room. From here, many spa guests and tourists set off on trails leading into the Pieniny and Sądecki Beskids.

Active Recreation

In summer, visitors can enjoy the cable car to Palenica, numerous cycling routes, and the Dunajec Gorge Path; in winter – ski slopes and cross-country trails. A must-see experience is the Dunajec River rafting – a traditional wooden raft cruise through the picturesque gorge, attracting visitors from all over the world.
